Pretenders in Paradise is a legendary costume competition hosted by the Pier House Resort & Caribbean Spa and in its 28th fantastical year. This year's theme, "Something's Fishy" offers a cosmic opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind costume ranging from marvelous mermaids to outlandish ocean-faring sea creatures. Contestants will compete at amateur and professional levels for $10,000 in cash prizes amidst a full house of swimmingly enthusiastic spectators.

Participation is open to anyone whether amateur or seasoned professional, individual or group! So get your best costume together, grab some friends (if you so dare) and prepare to compete in Fantasy Fest's longest running event. Judges award prizes based on creativity, enthusiasm and detail! Be sure to read all the rules.

We invite you to be a part of Pretenders In Paradise at the Pier House Resort & Caribbean Spa! If you're interested in competing amongst the best of the best (or the best of the worst), you can sign up as an amateur or professional, individual or group. Over $10,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded!

Here are all the rules and regulations, which we take very seriously, so be sure to share this information with the others in your group.

Costumes:
All entries must be in the realm of "good taste" for public display. Pretenders In Paradise^TM reserves the right to refuse entry to any contestant. In order for our announcers to communicate your vision to the audience, please submit a brief description of your costume as you would like it described while you are on stage must be no later than Tuesday, October 25 at noon. Because of the stage's proximity to the Gulf, ABSOLUTLEY - no metallic, paper or plastic confetti.

Lip Syncing or Karaoke Style Performances will not be considered.

Music:

Selected music must not exceed three (3.00) minutes for PROFESSIONAL entries and three (3.00) minutes for GROUP entries and two (2.00) minutes for AMATEUR contestants.
Music must be on a CD containing only one song or a CD with the track number indicated.
Production sound equipment will not read MP3 Files. Any custom burned CD should be playable over a standard CD player and legally obtained.
Title of costume, contestant's name and name of song must be clearly indicated on the cover.
Selected music must be provided no later than during Contestant Meeting, Wednesday, October 26 at 12 p.m.
Pretenders in Paradise^TM staff and/or production staff are not responsible for contestant's recorded music. Music will not be returned!

Stage Area: The area available for the contestants' performances is approximately 40 feet wide and 20 feet deep with an access ramp 24 feet long and 10 feet wide. When planning your performance please include movement to accommodate all viewing angles.

Backstage Area: The backstage area is for contestants and two helpers only. Backstage passes (verified by a door list) are required for entry and re-entry.

Time on Stage: Performance time will not exceed three (3.00) minutes on stage for group contestants, three (3.00) minutes for professional contestants and two (2.00) minutes for amateur contestants. However, Pretenders in Paradise^TM production staff may reduce performance time depending on total number of contestants or other time limitations and/or considerations.

Contestant Meeting: Wednesday, October 26, 12:00 P.M.
Pier House Resort & Caribbean Spa - Conference Center
It is to your benefit to attend this meeting to meet the staff and to drop off your payment for contestant entry form, signed acceptance of Rules and Regulations and materials that will be needed for your performance.

Contestants will meet the stage manager and the sound/lights/special effects manager.
Safety information, rules and regulations will be discussed.
Contestant backstage passes will be issued.
Contestant's selected music must be provided at this time.
The stage manager will answer questions and show contestants the stage, ramp, backstage area and entry gate.
Please be prompt. Meeting will be very brief.

Show Time:
Contestant and Costume Load-in: Thursday, October 27, 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
The contestants, their costumes and no more than two helpers must be backstage and check in with the stage manager no later than 7 p.m. Contestant entry gate will open at 6 p.m. and will be locked between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. The competition will begin at 9 p.m. SHARP! We understand you may need "liquid courage" in order to perform, but we ask that you maintain sobriety throughout the competition for the safety of yourself and other contestants.

Special Needs:
If you have any special needs such as colored lights, smoke, sound effects, etc., please note them on your entry form. We will do our best to accommodate everyone, if possible. The sooner we are aware of special requests the better chance we have of accommodating them.
